Portuguese consulates draw up and authenticate powers of attorney, and they also handle wills, travel authorisations for minors and proof-of-life certificates. The fee table lists each of these separately, in euros and dollars, so a file can be budgeted exactly.
Quick facts
Two different services exist and they cost different amounts: the consulate can draw up the power itself, or authenticate one you bring. Which you need depends on what the notary or lawyer in Portugal has asked for.
Fees breakdown
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Power of attorney drawn up | Published tariff | Consulate prepares it |
| Authentication of a power | Published tariff | You bring the document |
| Will | Published tariff | Consulates handle them |
| Travel authorisation for a minor | Published tariff | Frequently requested |
| Proof of life | Published tariff | For pensions paid from Portugal |
Proof of life is one of the most requested services in this network, because a great many Portuguese pensioners live in the United States and must certify annually that they are alive.
How to apply

Pensions
If a pension from Portugal stops arriving, an expired proof-of-life certificate is the first thing to check.
Property in Portugal
Sales and inheritances are the commonest reason for a power. The tax number is usually needed alongside it.
Be specific
Name the property with its registry description and the acts authorised. Portuguese registries reject vague instruments.
Revocation
Revoking a power requires a further instrument executed the same way, with notice to whoever holds the original.
