Methodology: sources, verification and corrections

This site is an independent directory. It is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by any government, embassy or consulate. Nothing here is legal or immigration advice. This page explains where the information comes from, how it is checked and how to get something corrected.

Where the data comes from

The directory of consular offices is built from publicly available official sources, principally the list of foreign consular offices and recognised consular officers in the United States published by the U.S. Department of State, together with the websites of the missions themselves.

Procedure pages draw on the publishing authority for each country: foreign ministries, immigration services, civil registries and the individual consulates. Where a figure comes from a fee table or a government notice, that is the source we use, not a third-party summary.

What we include, and what we do not

How entries are verified

Each entry is checked against the official source at the time it is written, and the month of verification is shown on the page itself. A procedure page carries a visible "data last verified" banner; a directory entry carries its own date.

We also record an internal confidence level for each procedure page:

Why figures go out of date

Consular fees are not stable. Some are revised annually, some quarterly with an exchange rate, and some are set separately by each post. Appointment systems change, offices move, and services are transferred between institutions. We date every page precisely so that you can see how old the information is instead of guessing.

Always confirm the amount and the requirements with the office that will serve you before travelling to it or buying a money order. Where an official source and this site disagree, the official source is right.

Corrections and removals

If something here is wrong, out of date or should not be listed, tell us and we will fix it. Write to the address on our contact page with the URL and, where possible, a link to the official source. Consular offices asking for an entry to be corrected or removed are attended to first.

Advertising

This site carries advertising. Advertisers have no influence over which offices are listed, how procedures are described or what any page says.
