U.S. citizens need a visa to visit Ghana, obtained before travel through the embassy or a consulate general, or through the electronic system where it is available for your category. Applications are handled by online appointment at the consular sections.
Quick facts
The yellow fever certificate is checked on arrival and is a condition of entry independent of the visa, so it needs arranging well before travel.

Additional notes
Ghanaians need no visa
Anyone holding Ghanaian citizenship travels on a Ghanaian passport. The Ghana Card also serves as a travel document within the region.
Right of abode
Ghana has offered routes for people of African descent to settle, and those are a different question from a visitor visa. See the citizenship page.
Work needs a permit
A visitor visa never authorises employment, and permits are arranged by the employer in Ghana.
Book early
Online appointment availability is the constraint at the busier sections.
