Embassy of Russian Federation: Services, Location, and Contact Information

Address: 2650 Wisconsin AVE NW
Phone: (202) 298-5700

If you hold Russian nationality and live within reach of Washington, this is the office your paperwork goes through. Consular work is unglamorous and exacting, and knowing what this post does before you turn up saves the wasted morning that catches most people out.

Everything on record about this office follows: where it is, how to reach it, what it does, and what to settle before you go.

๐Ÿ“ž Quick Contact

๐Ÿ›‚ Services normally available

In broad terms, expect the following. Anything unusual is worth confirming by telephone first:

๐Ÿ“… Getting an appointment

Most consular procedures need an appointment, and at a busy embassy the wait for one is usually the longest part of the whole process.

Check the official site for how this post takes bookings — online system, email or telephone all exist across the network. Whatever the method, it is free.

Ask about payment when you book. Cash or a money order for the exact amount is common across consular networks, and cards are the exception rather than the rule.

๐Ÿค Worth knowing before you go

Jurisdiction decides everything and distance decides nothing. A file submitted to the wrong post is returned, however close that post happens to be.

Keep the old documents. Expired passports, previous identity cards and original certificates are asked for far more often than people expect, and reconstructing them from abroad is slow.

Consular processing is slower than any commercial service and the timetable is not negotiable. Start early.

Common questions before you go

Which source wins if there is a contradiction?

The office’s own, at washington.mid.ru/en. No directory, this one included, replaces the official source.

What if I lose my passport days before a flight?

That does not go through the ordinary appointment queue. Call and say it is an emergency: for imminent travel most networks issue a travel document valid for a single journey.

Can I go there if I live in another state?

Usually not: applications from outside the district are refused. Ask which states the Washington office covers before you travel.

Does this office handle passports?

It usually does, by appointment and with personal attendance for biometrics. Ask whether the booklet is collected at the counter or posted out.

Do I need a visa to visit Russia?

That depends on your nationality and the length of the trip. Where Russia does require one, it is increasingly applied for online rather than at a counter.
