Dominican consulates act as notaries for documents destined for the Dominican Republic. The tariff has been standardised across the network: a power of attorney, a certification, an authorisation or a sworn declaration costs $100, a minor’s travel authorisation $50, and a legalisation or signature certification $25.
Quick facts
Unusually, the consulate can draft the power itself from what you tell it, for bank matters, property sales, evictions and litigation. You still need to bring the underlying documents.
Fees breakdown

|---|---|---|
| Power of attorney | $100 | Standardised tariff |

| Minor travel authorisation | $50 | Standardised tariff |
| Signature certification or legalisation | $25 | Per document |
| Good conduct certificate | $25 | Issued by the consulate |
One requirement catches people out: powers generally need a witness who is not a family member, identified with a passport or Dominican identity card.
How to apply
- Work out exactly what the person in the Dominican Republic must be able to do on your behalf.
- Gather the supporting documents: property title, account details or case references.
- Arrange a witness who is not a relative and who has valid identification.
- Book the appointment at the consulate covering your address.
- Attend, give the instructions, sign before the consular officer and pay the tariff.
- Send the original to the Dominican Republic, keeping a copy.
Required documents
- Valid Dominican passport or identity and electoral card.
- Full details of the person receiving the power.
- Property title, bank details or case reference, depending on the matter.
- A non-family witness with identification.
- Marriage or civil status documents where the act depends on them.
- Payment in the accepted form.

Additional notes
Standardised means comparable
Because the tariff is set centrally, a higher quote at one post is worth questioning against the published table.
Be specific
Naming the property, the bank and the acts authorised is what makes the power usable. Generic wording is refused by banks and registries.
Property matters
Sales and evictions are the most common reasons for a consular power, and they need the title details to be quoted accurately.
Revocation
Revoking a power requires a further instrument executed the same way, with notice to whoever holds the original.
