Ukrainian Visa Application in the U.S. โ€” 2026 Guide

Checked September 2026. This page was written for this country and its details were checked against the authorityโ€™s own sources that month. Consular rules still change without notice, so confirm anything that will cost you a journey or a fee with the office that covers you. How we check our data.
Data last verified: September 2026 — travel conditions are affected by martial law. Check official advice before planning a trip.

U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short visits to Ukraine. In practice the question is not the visa but the travel advice: the United States has maintained its strongest warning against travel to Ukraine, and its ability to assist Americans there is severely limited.

  3. Arrange insurance that explicitly covers Ukraine.
  4. Read the current U.S. travel advisory in full before deciding.
  5. Plan an overland route and allow considerable time.
  6. Register your presence with your own embassy if you go.

Required documents

Where to apply

Through the electronic system or the mission covering your state, depending on nationality and category.

Additional notes

Dual nationals face a different question

For a U.S.–Ukrainian dual national man aged 18 to 60, the risk is not entering Ukraine but leaving it. This is covered on the citizenship page below and deserves careful reading before any trip.

Martial law

Curfews, movement restrictions and documentation checks apply throughout the country and change by region.

Consular assistance is limited

The United States has warned that its capacity to help Americans in Ukraine is constrained. That is the practical meaning of the advisory.
