Data last verified: September 2026

Panamanian consulates certify documents and execute powers of attorney for use back home. Because Panama is a significant centre for company formation and property investment, a large share of this work is corporate as well as personal.

Quick facts

FeeFrom $30 per document certified
PaymentMoney order to the consulate
AppointmentCompulsory

Because Panama accepts apostilled documents, there is often a genuine choice between a consular act and a notarised, apostilled one. The Panamanian lawyer or notary receiving it decides which they want.

Property and company matters usually require the power to be protocolised before a Panamanian notary and registered in the public registry before third parties will act on it.

How to apply

  1. Ask the lawyer or notary in Panama which form they need and by which route.
  2. Obtain the wording from them, in Spanish.
  3. Gather the registry details, company data or case references.
  4. Book the appointment, or arrange a notary and apostille instead.
  5. Pay by money order made out exactly as instructed.
  6. Send the original to Panama for protocolisation and registration.

Required documents

Where to apply

At the consulate covering your state, or locally with a notary and an apostille where that route is accepted.

Additional notes

Company matters

Panamanian corporate documents have their own requirements, and the registered agent in Panama should confirm them before anything is signed here.

Be specific

Name the property with its registry details, or the company with its registration data, and the acts authorised.

Translation rules apply here too

A certified translator is required. Notarised translations are refused across Panamanian consular services.

Revocation

Revoking requires a further instrument through the same route, and registration of the revocation where the original was registered.
