Indonesian Passport Renewal in the U.S. — 2026 Guide

One rule shapes everything and it is easy to miss: the validity depends on where you apply. Applicants aged 17 or over applying inside Indonesia get ten years; those under 17, or residing and applying from outside Indonesia, get five. Renewing at a consulate here therefore means a shorter book than renewing at home.

The payment rule is set out in capital letters on the official tariff page and it is absolute: fees at Indonesian missions across the United States can be paid only by money order or cashier’s check. Cash, credit cards and debit cards are not accepted.

Confirm the exact amount against the mission’s own tariff page before buying the money order, since a wrongly made-out instrument cannot be used and is awkward to refund.

How to renew

1. Complete the self-registration for Indonesian nationals living abroad on the mission’s site.
2. Book the appointment through the e-consular service.
3. Gather your current passport, proof of residence and your residential identity card or marriage certificate.
4. Buy the money order for the applicable fee, made out exactly as instructed.
5. Attend the appointment, where the photograph is taken.
6. Supply a prepaid return envelope; the new passport typically follows within about a week.

Self-registration comes first

Indonesia asks nationals abroad to register themselves with the mission covering their area. It is quick, it is free, and consular procedures assume it has been done.

Non-biometric passports are gone

Indonesia stopped issuing non-biometric passports from December 2024, and the current document is the polycarbonate electronic version.
