Turkish passports are sold by duration, and the range is unusually wide: from six months to ten years, with the fee rising accordingly. Because the tariff is set in lira and charged at the consulate in its equivalent, dollar figures go stale quickly — confirm the amount when you book.
Quick facts
Two documents are indispensable: a valid identity card and your Turkish identification number. Men in the relevant age range must also produce evidence of completed military service, which is the requirement that most often stops an application.
Fees breakdown
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Passport, six months | Lowest tariff | Around €77 equivalent |
| Passport, ten years | Highest tariff | Around $315 equivalent |
| Identity card | Modest fee in lira | Higher for a lost card |
| Population register extract | Free | From consulates or online |
| Payment | Confirm with your post | Charged in dollars at the counter |
The fee includes the booklet charge, so there is no separate cost for the document itself as in some other systems.

The identity card can replace the passport
The Turkish identity card is accepted as a travel document for a defined list of countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Serbia and Northern Cyprus, in some cases only when arriving directly from Tรผrkiye. For regional travel it can save carrying the passport.
Carry identification in Tรผrkiye
The identity card is compulsory for all Turkish citizens from birth, the police may ask for identification at any time, and failing to produce it can attract a fine.
Lost abroad
Report it to the local police, obtain a report, and contact the consulate. Urgent replacements follow a different procedure from ordinary renewals.
Start six months out
With four to eight weeks of processing plus appointment waits, beginning half a year before expiry is realistic rather than cautious.
