Consulates of Mauritius in the United States

Mauritius keeps a single consular office in the United States, in Washington. This page gives what we hold for it and links the six consular procedures Mauritian citizens ask about most.

The office below carries the address and telephone we hold for it, and its official website where the mission publishes one. Where a field is missing it is because we do not have it, not because it does not exist.

U.S. documents for use in Mauritius

Mauritius has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 12 March 1968. A U.S. birth certificate, marriage certificate, diploma or power of attorney needs an apostille from the Secretary of State of the state that issued it — not a consular legalisation. The office above does not need to stamp it, and should not charge you to.

Apostille status from the HCCH status table for the Convention of 5 October 1961, checked on 6 October 2026.

Translation

Documents issued in Mauritius may arrive in English or French. A U.S. authority takes the English ones as they stand; anything in the other language normally needs a certified English translation. Who counts as a certified translator is decided by the authority that receives the document, not by the consulate, so ask before you pay for one.
