Equatorial Guinean Passport Renewal — 2026 Guide

Data last verified: September 2026 — the consular section has been upgrading its systems. Check the embassy site before filing.

Nothing happens until you are on the register. The embassy states it as a requirement rather than a suggestion: every Equatorial Guinean citizen abroad must register with their mission before applying for a passport or any other consular service. Registration produces a confirmation email with a PDF you upload as proof when you apply.

Quick facts

First stepConsular registry, then everything else
ApplicationOnline, through the national portal
PaymentOnline or money order; no cash
ReturnPrepaid courier envelope required

The biometric passport is applied for online through the national documents portal, which generates a payment note once you have listed your documents. The embassy’s jurisdiction is unusually wide: it covers citizens in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize and El Salvador.

Two-year extension of old passportsBeing discontinuedNo longer a route

That last line matters to anyone holding an older document: the two-year extension of non-biometric passports is being phased out, so the extension that worked before is not a plan you can rely on now.

How to apply

  1. Complete the consular registry first and save the PDF from the confirmation email.
  2. Open the national documents portal and review the published requirements.
  3. Generate the payment note and pay online or by money order.
  4. Upload the registry PDF as proof of registration.
  5. Print the completed form and post it with a prepaid return envelope from a major courier, or drop it off in person.
  6. Check the embassy’s notices, since the consular section has been changing its process.

Required documents

Where to apply

Through the embassy in Washington, the consulate general in Houston, or the permanent mission in New York, depending on where you live within that wide jurisdiction.

No offices currently listed.

Additional notes

Register before you need anything

Because registration gates every other service, doing it while nothing is urgent turns a two-stage problem into a one-stage one.

A prepaid envelope, not a stamp

The embassy asks specifically for a prepaid envelope or label from a courier company placed inside your original shipment, so the return journey is already paid and tracked.

Houston matters

Equatorial Guinea maintains a consulate general in Houston, reflecting the energy industry ties between the two countries. For anyone in Texas or the south, it is the closer option.

Spanish is the working language

Equatorial Guinea is the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa, and its consular forms and portals are in Spanish. Plan for that if your Spanish is rusty.
