Consulates of Canada in the United States

Canada keeps eighteen consular offices in the United States. This page gives what we hold for each of them and links the six consular procedures Canadian citizens ask about most.

Every office below carries the address and telephone we hold for it, and its official website where the mission publishes one. Where a field is missing it is because we do not have it, not because it does not exist.

Consular procedures for Canadian citizens

U.S. documents for use in Canada

Canada has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 11 January 2024. A U.S. birth certificate, marriage certificate, diploma or power of attorney needs an apostille from the Secretary of State of the state that issued it — not a consular legalisation. The office above does not need to stamp it, and should not charge you to.

Apostille status from the HCCH status table for the Convention of 5 October 1961, checked on 6 October 2026.

Translation

Documents issued in Canada may arrive in English or French. A U.S. authority takes the English ones as they stand; anything in the other language normally needs a certified English translation. Who counts as a certified translator is decided by the authority that receives the document, not by the consulate, so ask before you pay for one.

Closest is not always correct

Consulates divide the United States into jurisdictions by state, and the office nearest you is not necessarily the one that can serve you. Canada publishes that division on its own missions' websites; we link those on each office page where the mission has one. For anything that needs you to appear in person, confirm which office covers your state before you travel. For postal services some offices accept applications from outside their jurisdiction and some do not — that one you have to ask.
