Anyone travelling the Pamir Highway or anywhere in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region needs a GBAO permit in addition to whatever entry document they hold. It is obtained alongside the electronic visa or in Dushanbe, and travellers are turned back at checkpoints without it.
