Togolese Passport and Consular Card โ€” 2026 Guide

Checked September 2026. This page was written for this country and its details were checked against the authorityโ€™s own sources that month. Consular rules still change without notice, so confirm anything that will cost you a journey or a fee with the office that covers you. How we check our data.

Start with the consular card. The embassy publishes its forms for download and states a processing time of 30 business days — roughly six weeks — which tells you everything about how to plan a Togolese file: early, and with the card in hand before you need anything else.

Alongside the application itself, the embassy asks for a separate emergency contact form — the person to notify if something happens to you. It is a small thing that is easy to overlook and that holds up a file when it is missing.

Togo has been moving its consular processes online, including pre-registration systems used by its missions elsewhere. Ask the Washington embassy which route currently applies to you rather than following instructions written for another country.

How to apply

  1. Download the consular card form and the emergency contact form from the embassy.
  2. Fill them in directly and completely, in French.
  3. Gather your Togolese passport, proof of nationality and proof of address.
  4. Prepare colour passport photographs on a white background.
  5. Submit with the fee and a prepaid tracked return envelope.
  6. Allow 30 business days and keep the receipt you are given.

Required documents

Where to apply

At the embassy in Washington, on Massachusetts Avenue, which serves the United States.

Additional notes

Do not use French consulate instructions

Togo’s consulate in France publishes detailed requirements that include French residence permits. Those pages rank well in search and do not apply here. Use the Washington embassy’s own forms.

Six weeks means six weeks

Thirty business days is the published figure. Anything dependent on the consular card should be planned backwards from it.

The emergency contact form

A separate document, easy to forget, and a common reason for a file to stall.

Keep the receipt

It carries the collection date. Without it, tracing a file is harder than it should be.
