Zambian Passport Renewal in the U.S. — 2026 Guide

Data last verified: September 2026 — the embassy publishes two different addresses. See the note below before posting anything.

You cannot download the forms. Zambia works the other way round: you request the application package by email, the embassy posts it to you, and it arrives with an instruction sheet. The subject line matters — the embassy asks for "REQUEST FOR PASSPORT FORMS" or "REQUEST FOR TRAVEL DOCUMENT APPLICATION FORMS", whichever applies.

Quick facts

Include your National Registration Card number in the request. For a child under 16, give one of the parents’ card numbers instead. Without that number the embassy cannot start.

The fees come with the package rather than being published in advance, and they are paid when you attend the interview, not when you request the forms.

How to apply

  1. Email the consular section with the exact subject line the embassy specifies.
  2. Include your National Registration Card number, or a parent’s for a child under 16.
  3. Wait for the application package and read the instruction page it contains.
  4. Complete the forms and gather the documents listed.
  5. Attend the scheduled in-person consular interview in Washington with the fee.
  6. For updates, email with the subject "Passport status update" — follow-up is by email only.

Required documents

Where to apply

At the embassy in Washington. Zambia also maintains representations in Albuquerque, Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle, though the passport interview itself is in Washington.

Additional notes

Two addresses, and it matters

The embassy’s home page gives one address on Massachusetts Avenue while its passport page tells you to post requests to another on R Street, with a different phone number. Use the address on the passport page for passport matters, and confirm by email before posting anything valuable.

Follow up by email only

The embassy says so explicitly. Telephoning about a passport will not move it along.

Plan the trip

The in-person interview in Washington is part of the process, so factor travel into the timetable if you live elsewhere.

Subject lines are not decoration

The embassy routes email by subject line. Using the exact wording gets your request to the right desk.
