About this site

Consulates of the World is an independent reference for people dealing with foreign consulates in the United States: finding the office that covers their state, understanding what a procedure involves, and knowing what it costs before they get there.

What this site is

A directory of consular offices in the United States, organised by country and by city, with a set of procedure pages explaining the consular formalities people most often need: passports, visas, civil records, citizenship, document authentication and powers of attorney.

What this site is not

We are not a government body and we are not connected to any embassy or consulate. We cannot book appointments, process applications, chase files or intervene in a case. We do not sell any consular service, and no service on this site requires payment.

Nothing published here is legal or immigration advice. Consular rules change and individual circumstances differ; for a decision that matters, consult the competent authority or a qualified professional.

How the information is produced

Entries are built from official sources and dated on the page. Our methodology page explains which sources we use, what we include, how verification works and what our confidence levels mean.

If you are in trouble abroad

Consulates provide assistance to their nationals in emergencies — detention, accident, loss of documents, death of a relative. That help comes from the consulate itself. Use this site to find the right office and its contact details, then contact them directly.

Corrections

We publish a correction route rather than waiting to be told twice. If an entry is wrong or outdated, write to us with the URL and the official source, and we will update it.
