Trinidad & Tobago Passport Renewal in the U.S. โ€” 2026

Checked September 2026. This page was written for this country and its details were checked against the authorityโ€™s own sources that month. Consular rules still change without notice, so confirm anything that will cost you a journey or a fee with the office that covers you. How we check our data.
Data last verified: September 2026 — a new fee structure took effect in January 2026. Check the published chart before paying.

The instructions for this one are the most exacting in the directory, and they are not suggestions. The renewal form must be printed in colour, double-sided, on legal size paper — 8½ by 14 inches. Correction fluid is not permitted. Signatures must be consistent throughout and fit within the designated boxes.

Quick facts

Validity10 years from 16, 5 years under 16
Processing6–8 weeks via Port of Spain
FilingIn person or by registered mail
FeesNon-refundable, new chart since January

Two more rules worth knowing before you assemble anything. Every original document must be presented with two colour photocopies of each, with no exceptions. And babies need their own passports: nobody travels on a parent’s document.

Fees are paid at the time of application and are not refunded, whatever the outcome. The structure changed at the start of 2026, so any figure from an older guide should be treated as wrong.

How to apply

  1. Choose between an in-person appointment and a mail-in application.
  2. Print the form in colour, double-sided, on legal size paper, and complete it without correction fluid.
  3. Assemble every original with two colour photocopies of each.
  4. Add a money order for the applicable fee.
  5. For mail, use a 15 by 10 inch envelope and a tracked service: registered mail or a courier.
  6. Allow six to eight weeks while the file is processed in Port of Spain.

Required documents

Where to apply

At the embassy in Washington or the consulate general in New York, whose jurisdiction covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

No offices currently listed.

Additional notes

Delivery is by courier only

Finished passports are sent by FedEx and not to a post office box. Give a street address that someone can sign at.

Renew whenever you like

Passports can be renewed at any time, even well before expiry, which is worth using given the six-to-eight-week wait.

Not yet biometric

Trinidad and Tobago still issues machine-readable passports; the transition to electronic ones was authorised but had not replaced them. That affects nothing in your application.

Correction fluid voids the form

If you make a mistake, print a fresh form. It is cheaper than a rejected application.
