Moroccan consulates handle powers of attorney and signature legalisation, including the particular case of a marriage power, which allows someone in Morocco to act for an absent party in a marriage file. Property and inheritance are the other common reasons.

Moroccan practice distinguishes between the notarial system used for property and the adoul system used for family matters, and which one applies decides how the power must be drawn.

Required documents

Where to apply

At the consulate covering your address, or during a mobile consular visit to your area.

Additional notes

Two legal systems, two documents

A power drawn for a property sale will not serve for a family court file, and the reverse is equally true. Ask which you need before drafting.

Inheritance

Moroccan succession involves specific shares and often several heirs abroad, each of whom may need their own document.

Be specific

Name the property with its title reference and the acts authorised. Vague instruments are refused.

Revocation

Revoking requires a further instrument executed the same way, with notice to whoever holds the original.
