Nothing happens at a Moroccan consulate until one box is ticked. Consular registration — the immatriculation consulaire — is compulsory for Moroccans living abroad and conditions access to everything else. Without it up to date, an appointment for a passport or an identity card is simply refused.
Quick facts
That last point is unusually strict and genuinely enforced: passports not collected within six months are cancelled and destroyed. The fee is lost with them.

Morocco is one of the few countries in this directory that does not publish its consular tariff online at all. Ask when you book, because you cannot look it up.
How to apply
- Complete or update your consular registration first, since nothing proceeds without it.
- Identify the consulate covering your address: you must apply at your own, not the most convenient one.
- Book the appointment through the official online system.
- Attend in person for biometric capture.
- Keep the receipt, which is what you present on collection.
- Track the application online and collect within six months.

Mothers and children’s passports
Moroccan women can obtain or renew passports for their minor children without the father’s prior agreement, unless a court decision provides otherwise. It is a marked contrast with several neighbouring systems.
Not extendable
The biometric passport cannot be extended. When it expires you apply again, and appointment availability is the constraint.
Mobile consulates
These have expanded considerably. For families several hours from a consulate they are the practical route, and they handle most routine services.
Keep the registration current
An address change that is not reflected in the consular register can block a later appointment. Update it when you move.
