Jordanian passports run for five years and can be renewed for a further five at any Jordanian diplomatic or consular office abroad. The requirement that governs everything is the national number: from the age of 16, an applicant must hold one, together with an identity card.
Quick facts
The 50 dinar rate applies to a passport that has expired or has fewer than 180 days left — which is to say most renewals. Note that the six-month threshold matters twice over, since many countries refuse entry below it.
Fees breakdown
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Passport, applicant under 16 | 25 JOD | Charged in dollars abroad |
| Expired passport, or under 180 days | 50 JOD | The usual renewal rate |
| Other categories | 20 to 250 JOD | By type and circumstance |
| Processing abroad | Around 14 days | Two hours in Jordan itself |
| Family book replacement | Charged in Jordan | If lost or damaged |
Where there is no Jordanian mission in the country of residence, renewals can be handled by the passports department in Amman instead.

Additional notes
A wife does not need her husband’s consent
The government’s own service description states it plainly: a wife may obtain a passport without her husband’s consent. It is worth knowing, because the opposite is often assumed.
Divorced and widowed women
Where a passport is sought for children, a divorced or widowed mother brings a temporary guardianship instrument issued by a Sharia court.
First-time applications
These go to the office holding the family passport file, or, where none exists, proof of nationality and residence under the nationality law.
Two kinds of ordinary passport
Jordan issues ordinary passports with and without a national number, and they are not the same document. See the citizenship page before assuming which applies to you.
