Consulates of Gambia in the United States

The Gambia keeps three consular offices in the United States, in Silver Spring, New York and Washington. This page gives what we hold for each of them and links the six consular procedures Gambian citizens ask about most.

Every office below carries the address and telephone we hold for it, and its official website where the mission publishes one. Where a field is missing it is because we do not have it, not because it does not exist.

U.S. documents for use in Gambia

The Gambia is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. An apostille is therefore not enough: a U.S. document intended for use in Gambia goes through the full legalisation chain — authentication by the Secretary of State of the state that issued it, then the U.S. Department of State, then the Gambia's own consular stamp. The last step is the office above, in person or by post.

Closest is not always correct

Consulates divide the United States into jurisdictions by state, and the office nearest you is not necessarily the one that can serve you. The Gambia publishes that division on its own missions' websites; we link those on each office page where the mission has one. For anything that needs you to appear in person, confirm which office covers your state before you travel. For postal services some offices accept applications from outside their jurisdiction and some do not — that one you have to ask.
